Tripura CM joins Central Health Council meet, welcomes launch of ‘SUMAN Roadmap 2030’

Agartala, June 29: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha participated in the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW) held in New Delhi on Monday, where the Centre unveiled the SUMAN Roadmap 2030 to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare across India.

The high-level meeting, chaired by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, brought together health ministers from states and Union Territories, senior officials of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and other policymakers to review the country's healthcare priorities and enhance Centre-State coordination.

In the conference, the union Health minister launched the SUMAN Roadmap 2030, a long-term strategy aimed at reducing maternal and newborn mortality while helping India achieve the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Reacting to the launch, the Tripura Chief Minister said the roadmap would provide a significant boost to the country's efforts to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes and accelerate progress towards achieving the SDG targets within the stipulated timeline.

The newly launched framework adopts a life-cycle approach to maternal healthcare, covering every stage from pre-pregnancy and antenatal care to childbirth and postnatal services. It also integrates child health, adolescent health, family planning and nutrition initiatives to ensure comprehensive care for mothers and newborns.

A key component of the roadmap is the systematic identification and monitoring of high-risk pregnancies through different stages of pregnancy and childbirth, enabling timely medical intervention and improved healthcare outcomes.

The strategy also focuses on expanding healthcare access in remote and tribal areas, strengthening emergency obstetric services, encouraging community participation through SUMAN Panchayats, and addressing the impact of climate change on maternal and child health.

The conference also reviewed the implementation of major national health programmes and discussed strategies to address emerging public health challenges. Deliberations focused on improving healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to affordable and quality medical services, and reinforcing cooperation between the Centre and the states to achieve universal healthcare across the country.
