Tripura CM meets Prime Minister, two other central ministers

Agartala, July 16: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and two more Central Ministers on Friday.

In his meeting with the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister discussed Tripura’s progress in implementing various welfare schemes.

The Chief Minister, a government press release said, requested the Prime Minister for early sanction of the projects as recommended by the Fifteenth Finance Commission.

During the discussions, Deb apprised the Prime Minister that the 15th Finance Commission had recommended specific grants of Rs. 875 crore for five projects in the Irrigation, Tourism and Urban development sector of Tripura.

The Chief Minister, according to a government press release, pressed for a package for a holistic development of the Janajati people in Tripura.

Deb highlighted that the Tripura Government had already sent a package of Rs. 8802 crore to the Centre for Socio, Economic, Cultural and Linguistic Development of the indigenous section. 

He briefed the Prime Minister that as per suggestion of the central government, a revised proposal of 17 Projects involving Rs.1059.89 Crore for this purpose was submitted to the Centre. 

The Chief Minister proposed an externally-aided project of Rs. 1,250 crore for the overall development of the Janajati population, the press release said.

While the Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister about the various projects already implemented in Tripura, he also sought Centre's support for completion of the on-going development works in Tripura.

Apart from the Prime Minister, Deb also held meetings with- Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, and G.Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for DoNER.
He met total seven central cabinet ministers in two days. The Chief Minister had meetings with five central cabinet ministers on Thursday, the first day of his visit.

Deb discussed various development projects and other issues of state's interest. The Chief Minister’s meetings with the two Union Ministers were ‘fruitful’, according to a government press release.

In his meeting with Puri, the Chief Minister requested to change the funding pattern for Smart City Mission from 50:50 ratio to 90:10 ratio as the shares of central and state governments. Deb, according to the press release, pointed out that this would expedite implementation of Smart City Mission.

He also demanded sanctioning of funds for Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Akhaura Check Post on India-Bangladesh border.

The Chief Minister in his discussion with the Minister of DoNER stressed on releasing dues in respect of on-going NLCPR and NESIDS projects.

The NLCPR projects included construction of District Administration Complex, Sepahijala District (requisition sent for release of Rs. 8.21 crore, construction of District Administration Complex, Khowai District (requisition sent for Rs. 8.14 crore) and transmission Project (Phase-I): 400 KV S/Stn. at Surjamaninagar (to be charged at 132 KV) and infrastructure development, West Tripura District (requisition sent for Rs. 1.96 crore).

Deb also discussed that under the NESIDS projects, a requisition of Rs. 13.28 crore has been sent to the Ministry of DoNER for release of next installment for improvement of Tourist spot connectivity from Amarpur (Fatiksagar) leading to Chabimura and having access to eco-Tourism Centre.

He also demanded release of next installment against the requisition of Rs. 13.09 crore for improvement of from Gandacherra- Raishyabari road (18.3 km) to Narkel Kunja (length-8 km) for easy access for the Tourists from Dhalai, North and Unakoti Districts to Narikel Kunja Island surrounded by the Dumbur Lake Water.

Meanwhile, Deb met BJP national general secretary (organization) B.L. Santosh in Delhi to discuss party's organizational matters.
