Tripura has witnessed a robust transformation in its healthcare system over the past few years, with significant expansion of infrastructure, medical services and treatment facilities across the state, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Sunday.
Speaking at the inauguration of Supra Multi-Speciality Hospital at Motorstand in Agartala, Dr. Saha said the state government has been undertaking a series of development initiatives with the welfare of people from all sections of society as its priority.
“The government is moving ahead on the path of development by taking into account the faith and confidence of every citizen,” the Chief Minister said, adding that development initiatives are being implemented by rising above political considerations.
Dr. Saha highlighted the expansion of healthcare infrastructure in the state over the past few years. He said services such as digital healthcare, telemedicine, trauma care and transplantation have expanded significantly, providing people with access to advanced medical facilities within Tripura.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the contribution of private hospitals in strengthening the state's healthcare delivery system and said both government and private healthcare institutions have an important role to play in improving access to quality treatment.
According to Dr. Saha, the bed capacity of Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala has increased to 1,413. Expansion has also been undertaken at district hospitals and other healthcare facilities across the state, he said, adding that the improvement in infrastructure and treatment capacity has helped reduce the need to refer patients outside the state.
He appealed to people to have confidence in the healthcare facilities available within Tripura, stressing that advanced treatment options are increasingly being made available within the state itself.
The Chief Minister further announced that a 100-bed Eye Hospital will be established in Tripura as part of efforts to expand specialised healthcare services.
He also said initiatives are being taken to establish Bharat Mata Canteens to provide affordable food and support to attendants accompanying patients, particularly those coming from remote areas.
Highlighting the government's healthcare and welfare schemes, Dr. Saha said significant progress has been made under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana. He said disease screening is also being carried out under the Mukhyamantri Niramoy Arogya Yojana.
The government has also taken steps to establish a medical college and hospital in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) area, he said.
Dr. Saha also highlighted the state's performance in child and adolescent vaccination, saying Tripura has achieved 100 per cent success under the Mukhyamantri Sustha Shoishab Sustha Koishore Abhiyan.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the new Supra Multi-Speciality Hospital and also inaugurated a blood donation camp organised as part of the occasion.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder was present at the programme. Architect of the newly inaugurated hospital Suresh Chandra Debnath delivered the welcome address, while hospital MD Dr. Rajib Debnath proposed the vote of thanks.
