Agartala, Sept 15: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has directed the administration to take strict action against spa centres operating without valid licences, while calling upon administration to proactively identify public issues and resolve them without waiting for complaints or media reports.
The Chief Minister issued the directions during a meeting of the Task Monitoring System (TMS) at the Secretariat on Tuesday, where a range of public-interest issues, including traffic management, healthcare, human-elephant conflict, infrastructure, education and sports, were reviewed.
Dr. Saha stressed that matters having a direct bearing on public life require a more active, sensitive and responsible response from the administration. He said government officials should not wait for problems to be highlighted through the media or brought to their notice by citizens, but should identify emerging issues themselves and initiate timely remedial measures.
At the outset of the meeting, Chief Minister’s Secretary and Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary Kiran Gitte made a presentation on the functioning of the TMS portal and the mechanism for monitoring issues concerning government departments appearing across social and electronic media. Several such issues were subsequently taken up for review.
The Chief Minister emphasised coordination and accountability at every level, directing officials to hear public grievances courteously and ensure their speedy disposal.
He particularly called upon District Magistrates, as the administrative heads of their respective districts, to regularly assess the overall situation in their jurisdictions and intervene promptly wherever necessary.
Focus on human-elephant conflict:
Expressing concern over increasing elephant-related problems in populated areas, Dr. Saha called for stronger intervention by the Forest Department and other concerned agencies. He suggested taking expert advice and technical assistance wherever required to develop effective solutions.
He stressed that measures to tackle human-elephant conflict should be practical and suited to local conditions, with the safety of residents remaining a priority.
Smart classrooms also on agenda:
The Chief Minister further directed the concerned department to regularly evaluate the functioning and practical effectiveness of smart classrooms in schools and submit performance reports.
The Chief Minister urged District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police to maintain continuity in their public-oriented initiatives and perform their responsibilities with greater dedication, sincerity and accountability.
Traffic, healthcare, sports issues reviewed:
The issue of illegal parking in the Golbazar area also came up for discussion. Dr. Saha directed the SP (Traffic) to conduct an on-the-spot inspection and take appropriate measures to address the problem.
The condition of Bailey bridges in different parts of the state was another issue discussed at the meeting. The Chief Minister instructed officials to identify bridges requiring repairs and undertake necessary maintenance work without delay to ensure safe and uninterrupted connectivity.
Healthcare preparedness received special attention, with the Chief Minister reviewing the functioning of trauma centres across the state. He stressed that such facilities must remain fully operational and ready to respond to accidents and other emergencies at all times.
The Chief Minister also directed the concerned departments to intensify awareness campaigns on the prevention of non-communicable diseases and maintain continued vigilance against malaria.
On sports, Dr. Saha instructed departments to take advance measures to prevent administrative and procedural issues from affecting athletes. He emphasised that sportspersons should not lose opportunities to participate, progress or build their careers because of unnecessary delays or bureaucratic complications.
District Magistrates and senior police officials from all districts joined the meeting virtually. Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, Directors and other senior officials from various departments also attended the meeting.
