Tripura CM reviews Bru resettlement process, 3526 families shifted so far

Agartala, Aug 27: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday asked the officials concerned to complete the Bru resettlement process within the stipulated time.

After taking a review of the Bru resettlement process at the secretariat, Dr. Saha said that the Bru leaders should be more active in submitting the list of families for area-wise rehabilitation by August 31.

The Bru re-settlement is going on as part of a quadripartite agreement signed between the Centre, Tripura and Mizoram governments and the Bru leaders in January last year. The agreement was signed for providing permanent resettlement to over 36,000 Brus in Tripura who have been staying at six relief camps in the North district since for years.

Taking part in the discussion, Principal Secretary of Revenue department Puneet Agarwal said, the Tripura government identified 13 places for resettlement of 37,136 people of 6959 Bru families. As of now, 3526 Bru families were resettled in 8 locations. Besides, a list of additional 1051 families has been submitted by the Bru leaders.

He said, according to a government press release, the state government didn’t receive list of 2382 families for area-wise resettlement so far. He said, the list has to be submitted by August 31 as per the central government’s guidelines. 

Janajati Welfare minister Rampada Jamatia, Fisheries minister Prem Kumar Reang, MLA Pramod Reand, MDC Bhumikananda Reang and higher officials including Chief Secretary Dr. J.K. Sinha were present in the review meeting.
