Tripura cyclist reaches Everest base camp, sets record

Agartala, July 14: In an inspiring journey and example of determination, Bapi Debnath (Neel) from Chandrapur in Agartala has achieved what seemed impossible. 
Residing in Kolkata for work, Bapi had a long-cherished dream of conquering Everest on a bicycle. On Sunday, at 10:55 am, he turned the dream into reality by successfully reaching the Everest Base Camp, setting a world record.
A former student of Agartala's Umakanta Academy, Bapi became the first Bengali cyclist to reach the Everest Base Camp, making it a historic achievement. He is India's third cyclist and the world's eighth to accomplish this feat.
In a video message, Bapi shared the achievement and said that he began his journey on May 21, this year from Kolkata with a single-gear bicycle. Despite facing numerous hardships and near-death experiences along the gruelling path, he succeeded to reach the goal.
Bapi's route included stops at Banaras, Ayodhya, Sanoli, Punjab, Kathmandu, and finally Namche Bazaar, before reaching the Everest Base Camp on Sunday, completing his incredible journey. He dedicated this monumental achievement to his father.
