Tripura Flood: CM inspects affected areas, rescue & relief measures underway, more rains predicted

Incessant rainfall over the past two days has created flood situation in parts of Tripura including several places under the West Tripura district, throwing the normal life out of gear.

The worsening situation prompted the state administration to open 34 new relief camps—33 in West Tripura and one in Unakoti district— on Sunday sheltering over 7,100 people from 1,623 flood-hit families.

Tripura Chief Minister on Sunday inspected several flood-hit areas and relief camps in West Tripura district. He took stock of the relief measures and interacted with the affected people.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Saha reaffirmed the state government’s preparedness to deal with any emergency.

IMD predicts more rainfall:

With continuous heavy rainfall causing widespread disruption across Tripura, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more downpours over the next two days and issued a red alert for West Tripura and Khowai districts. An orange alert is in place for the rest of the state until 8:30 AM on June 3.

According to the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall (over 20 cm) is likely in parts of West Tripura and Khowai districts, while other areas may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 20 cm. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds up to 50 kmph are also forecasted across the state.

Water level rising in rivers:

The persistent rain has led to a surge in river levels, with the Juri and Kakri rivers crossing critical limits and the Howrah river flowing above the danger mark.

Loss of lives & damages:

Two deaths in drowning incidents-- one in Jirania sub-division and the other in Sadar sub-division, and damages to hundreds of houses have been reported till the last information came in.

The number of affected families continues to rise as the administration races against time to manage the flood crisis.

Rescue & Relief Measures:

The administration is working round the clock to ensure relief and rescue operations in flood-hit areas with medical teams, food supplies, and other essentials arranged for those affected.

In Agartala, pump machines are operational, and drainage systems are functioning to ease waterlogging.

The administration has urged the public to adhere to government advisories as the situation continues to worsen.
