Around 2,800 families were rendered homeless due to flood caused by heavy downpours in four districts of Tripura over the past two days.
An official said, around 10,600 people from the 2800 flood-hit families were so far shifted to 60 relief camps: West Tripura– 48, Khowai-3, Unakoti- 3 and North Tripura-6. He said, necessary arrangements have been made for relief measures.
Citing preliminary reports, Revenue secretary Brijesh Pandey said the heavy rainfall and flood damaged 201 houses (92 severely and 109 partly) in Gomati, Khowai, Sepahijala and North Tripura districts.
He said, in light of the prevailing and forecasted weather conditions, a red alert has been issued to all districts indicating a high likelihood of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in some places for Sunday and Monday.
Briefing media on the latest updates on, the Revenue Secretary said, total 14 rescue teams have been deployed at different places under two districts-- 11 in West Tripura (NDRF-2, SDRF-3, Assam Rifles-1, Fire & Emergency Services-1, Civil Defence/ Aapda Mitra/ Bharat and Scouts and Guides-4), and 3 in Unakoti district (NDRF -1, Civil Defence/ Aapda Mitra Volunteers-2).
Meanwhile, the administration advised the people not to be panic, avoid venturing near rivers and low-lying areas and follow government advisories.
In the Press conference, the Revenue Secretary was accompanied by West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and Project officer of State Emergency Operation Centre- Dr. Sarat Kumar Das among other officials.
