Agartala, Oct 9: In a joint raid of Assam Rifles and Customs, a consignment of 501 kilograms of ganja, estimated to be worth Rs 2.50 crore was seized on Thursday.
The ganja seizure was reported from Khowai district.
According to an official press release, the operation was launched following intelligence inputs and sustained surveillance to intercept a suspected vehicle allegedly carrying the contraband.
The joint team tracked the vehicle from West Sonatala and pursued it up to the vicinity of Baikhuntapur village, near the border of West Tripura and Khowai districts. The location is approximately 18 kilometres short of Hezamara block.
The operation led to the recovery of the large consignment of ganja, dealing a blow to the suspected narcotics transportation network operating in the region.
The seized contraband has been handed over to Customs authorities for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The operation highlights the ongoing coordination between Assam Rifles and other enforcement agencies to curb the movement of illegal narcotics through Tripura and the wider Northeast region.
