Tripura is gearing up for one of its most vibrant and culturally rich festivals — the Kharchi Utsav, set to begin on July 3 at the revered Chaturdash Devata Temple in Khayerpur.
The week-long celebration promises a spectacular fusion of devotion, tradition, and festivity, drawing crowds from across the state and beyond.
A preparatory meeting was held on Tuesday at the West Tripura District Magistrate’s Conference Hall to ensure seamless arrangements for the grand occasion.
MLA Ratan Chakraborty, who chaired the session, highlighted that Kharchi Puja is not merely a religious event but a glowing testament to Tripura’s diverse cultural heritage. He urged active participation from all quarters — government agencies, social organizations, and the public — for smooth conduct of the festival.
To manage the massive influx of visitors, Addl. District Magistrate Sajal Biswas laid out a comprehensive plan focusing on infrastructure, safety, and public convenience. Priorities include improved street lighting, uninterrupted electricity, and a secure atmosphere, especially during the evenings when crowds peak. Clean drinking water, mobile health units, and sanitation facilities will be put in place to ensure comfort for all attendees.
In anticipation of a high turnout, authorities are organizing dedicated parking zones and a systematic stall layout. The fairgrounds will also host exhibition stalls from various government departments, offering insights into welfare schemes and developmental initiatives.
Adding to the festive spirit, the Information and Cultural Affairs Department will present lively cultural performances every evening, showcasing talented artists and traditional performers from across Tripura.
The meeting saw participation from key officials and local leaders, including MLA Swapna Debbarma, Old Agartala Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Jharna Rani Das, Vice-Chairman Monty Debnath, and SDMs Shanti Ranjan Chakma (Jirania) and Maniklal Das (Sadar), among others.
With meticulous planning and enthusiastic collaboration, Kharchi Utsav 2025 is poised to be a vibrant celebration of tradition, unity, and the enduring spirit of Tripura.
