Tripura gets approval to establish Ayurvedic Medical College in Udaipur

Agartala, June 19: In a major boost to healthcare and medical education in the state, Tripura has received approval from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) under the Ministry of AYUSH for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced that the commission has accepted the state's application to start the institution with an intake capacity of 60 students from the 2026–27 academic session.

Describing the approval as a landmark achievement, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and medical education across the country.

According to the Chief Minister, the new Ayurvedic medical college and hospital will play a significant role in promoting traditional systems of medicine and expanding opportunities for students aspiring to pursue Ayurvedic education within the state.

The institution is also expected to strengthen healthcare services by integrating Ayurveda into the state's healthcare framework, while reducing the need for students to seek professional Ayurvedic education outside Tripura.

The approval marks an important step in the state's efforts to enhance medical education facilities and promote the Indian system of medicine, aligning with the broader vision of expanding quality healthcare and educational opportunities in the Northeast.
