Agartala, July 21: Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other ministers and officials on Tuesday paid their last respects to the mortal remains of late Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag, who was reportedly found dead inside the washroom attached to his office chamber in the police headquarters on Monday.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said he was attending a meeting on Monday when a senior police officer informed him over the phone about the incident. 

He immediately rushed to the State Police Headquarters and interacted with senior officers.

Highlighting the sequence of events, Dr. Saha said the body was brought down after the forensic team arrived at the spot, following which it was sent to the hospital.

Describing Anurag as a dedicated, honest, and courageous police officer, the Chief Minister said the late DGP had made significant contributions to maintaining law and order in Tripura and had achieved remarkable success in various capacities during his distinguished career.

Dr. Saha further said the preliminary post-mortem report has indicated death due to hanging.

The Chief Minister also informed that the mortal remains of the late DGP would be flown to Delhi on Tuesday. 

He said necessary instructions had already been issued to officials at Tripura Bhavan in New Delhi to make the required arrangements for taking the body to Anurag's residence in a village at Uttar Pradesh.
