Tripura Governor, CM take part in traditional Ratha Yatra

Agartala, July 16: Rath Yatra is a unique festival of harmony and togetherness that brings people together irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or social status. One of the most significant aspects of this festival is its message of universality and equality.

While inaugurating the Rath Yatra festival organized by ISKCON at Purbasha premises today, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu highlighted these ideals.

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha also addressed the gathering.

The Governor prayed for the happiness, peace, and prosperity of the people of Tripura and said that, according to tradition, not everyone can enter the sanctum sanctorum of a temple to have a glimpse of the deity. Therefore, Lord Jagannath himself comes out on the chariot to bless devotees, allowing people from all sections of society— rich and poor alike—to receive his darshan.

This tradition, he said, teaches that all human beings are equal in the eyes of God and that humanity and social harmony are the true strengths of society. He further noted that during Rath Yatra, the devotion and attention of devotees remain focused on Lord Jagannath, creating a unique spiritual atmosphere. The festival strengthens social unity, mutual respect, and brotherhood.

Referring to the growing global interest in Indian culture and spirituality, the Governor said it reflects the universal appeal and welfare-oriented philosophy of India's spiritual heritage. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Rath Yatra is not merely a religious festival but a symbol of humanity, brotherhood, love, and unity. It teaches people to move forward together beyond barriers of caste, religion, and community.

He stated that the present state government respects and extends equal support to festivals of all religions and communities and will continue to do so in the future, as such celebrations play an important role in maintaining peace and harmony in society. These festivals strengthen unity amid cultural diversity and foster mutual respect and goodwill.

He prayed to Lord Jagannath for the progress, peace, and prosperity of Tripura, the nation, and humanity as a whole. Speaking as the special guest, Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee wished for the happiness, good health, and well-being of the people of the state. He said that Rath Yatra not only awakens spiritual consciousness but also promotes the ideals of love and service among people.

He praised ISKCON for its long-standing contributions to religious activities, humanitarian service, youth development, and the promotion of spiritual values, and extended his congratulations and appreciation to the organization.

Among those present as distinguished guests were Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, MLA Abhishek Debroy, Acting Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad Biswajit Shil, social worker Papia Dutta, and TIDC Chairman Nabadal Banik. The welcome address was delivered by Shridham Govinda Das Prabhu, Vice-President of ISKCON Agartala.

Following the inaugural programme, the Chief Minister, the Governor, and other dignitaries offered prayers to Lord Jagannath, Balaram, and Subhadra on the chariot and formally flagged off the Rath Yatra procession.
