
Agartala, May 25: Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu flagged off the 'Sundays on Cycle' event in front of Ujjayanta Palace, Agartala Sunday morning.
The event, organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), aimed to promote fitness awareness and a pollution-free future as part of the Fit India Movement under the Khelo India initiative.
Speaking at the event, the Governor emphasized the importance of such fitness initiatives and suggested that similar events should be organized across all districts of the state by the Sports Authority of India.
Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy, who attended the event, highlighted the significant progress made in sports infrastructure in Tripura over the past five years. He also announced plans to develop dedicated cycling tracks in the state.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports Department; S.B. Nath, Director of Sports; Laxman Dongari, Joint Director of SAI; and John F. Kharsing, General Secretary of the North-East Sports Association.
During the programme, the Governor also felicitated Arjuna Award winner Montu Debnath and Gopesh Debnath for their contributions to Indian sports.
The call to cycle was enthusiastically answered by over 150 local cycling enthusiasts, senior officials from Assam Rifles, and members from the Agartala Cycloholic Foundation, who actively participated in the 5 km ride to Oxygen Park, Gandhi Gram.
Lakshman Dongari, Assistant Director, SAI Regional Centre, Kolkata, and Arindam, Centre Incharge, STC Agartala extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to all participants, dignitaries, stakeholders, and supporting organizations for their active cooperation and support in making the event a grand success.
