Tripura Governor interacts with border villagers

Agartala, Dec 9: Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Tuesday visited the Karbook in Gomati district's Amarpur to review the living conditions, problems and development needs of villagers residing along the India–Bangladesh border.

Accompanied by his wife, the Governor inspected the border region and later held an interaction meeting with local residents at the Jaleya BSF ADM Camp.

During the meeting, he sought to understand whether the central government’s development funds and various schemes meant for border villages were being implemented effectively on the ground.

The villagers, taking the opportunity to directly address the Governor, highlighted several longstanding issues.

They demanded construction of new roads connecting border villages with nearby markets, as well as additional gates along the international border to ease movement.

Concerns related to drinking water, sanitation facilities, housing under government schemes, Ujjwala LPG connections and benefits under Ayushman Bharat were also raised.

The Governor noted that border villages were once considered the “last villages” of the country, but under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they are now recognised as the “first villages.”

He said the central government aims to extend urban-level facilities to these remote regions and emphasized that his visits to various border villages across the state are intended to verify the proper implementation of welfare schemes.

After the interaction at Jaleya BSF Camp, the Governor travelled through the Patichhari–Gulmni Para–JC Bari–Khagrachhari border route to reach the Shilachhari BOP. Following lunch there, he attended another interaction session at Shuknachhari Mahabudhi School.

State government officials including Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Joint Secretary Jayanta Bhattacharjee, Additional District Magistrate Subhash Debnath, MLA Sanjoy Manik Tripura, SDM Shyamjoy Jamatia and officials from various departments were present during the meetings.
