Tripura Govt committed to ensuring PDS benefits reach every corner: Food minister

Agartala, May 9: Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday said the state government is committed to strengthening the Public Distribution System (PDS) and ensuring that its benefits reach people in every corner of the state.
He said the Food department has been continuously working to make the distribution system more effective, transparent and people-oriented for the welfare of consumers across Tripura.
He said this while addressing the state-level Consumer Awareness Seminar on “Safe Products, Confident Consumers” and a review meeting with Fair Price Shop dealers and representatives of the business community at Prajna Bhavan on Friday. The programme was organized by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department.
The Minister said he became aware of various issues and challenges faced by stakeholders after participating in the review meeting and held detailed discussions on possible solutions through collective efforts.
He stressed the need to further reinforce the Public Distribution System so that consumers do not face any inconvenience in availing essential commodities and services.
Chowdhury also directed senior officials present in the meeting to remain vigilant and ensure smooth functioning of the distribution system in the larger interest of the people of the state. He sought active cooperation from all stakeholders associated with the Public Distribution System to help the department work more efficiently for public welfare.
