Agartala, Sept 14: The state government on Wednesday declared Durga Puja holiday for employees from October 2 to 10.
Speaking to the media, Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury said the nine-day holiday was approved by the state cabinet. He said, the decision would enable the government employees to enjoy holiday for additional five days.
He also announced two other important cabinet decisions-- establishment of an organic certification agency under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and allotment of land for 52 displaced families under the Revenue department.
Chowdhury said, earlier the total land for organic farming in the state was 2000 hectares while the area now increased to 21,000 hectares.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a goal to declare the North East as organic region. The Tripura government is working in line with the Prime Minister’s goal, he said.
Organic products are good for health and profitable for the farmers, Chowdhury said. As the state government is promoting organic cultivation, the proposed agency would be beneficial for the farmers.
The state government also decided the name of the proposed agency as Tripura State Organic Product Certification Agency, the ICA minister said.
In another decision, the cabinet approved allotment of land for 52 families displaced due to the setting up of Integrated Check Post at Sabroom.
He said, the government would allot total 2.08 acres of land to the displaced people.
The ICA minister said, some other major decisions that were taken by the cabinet on Wednesday would be announced by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha during the launching programme of ‘Prati Ghore Sushasan’ campaign on September 17, the birthday of the Prime Minister.
