Agartala, June 15: The Tripura government has been implementing several initiatives, including the distribution of bicycles, to encourage girls to continue their education. As an outcome, the state has recorded a significant decline in dropout rates among girl students, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Monday.

Speaking at a bicycle distribution programme held at Shishu Bihar HS School in Agartala, the Chief Minister said the government's sustained efforts have significantly contributed to improving girls’ participation in education and curbing dropouts.

As part of the scheme, the state government planned to provide bicycles to 41,800 girl students studying in Class IX during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 financial years. The programme is being implemented with an expenditure of around Rs 20 crore. During the event, Dr. Saha ceremonially handed over bicycles to 12 students representing 12 different schools.
