Agartala, June 8: The Tripura Government has initiated a comprehensive effort to strengthen the state's education system, with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha directing District Magistrates to play a more proactive role in improving school functioning, academic standards, and student welfare.
Chairing a high-level review meeting of the School Education Department at the Secretariat on Monday, the Chief Minister stressed that education remains a key pillar of social development and called for greater accountability from all stakeholders involved in the sector.
During the meeting, Dr. Saha instructed District Magistrates across all eight districts to conduct regular field visits to schools, monitor day-to-day operations, and address issues affecting students and teachers without delay. He emphasized that district administrations should not limit their role to supervision alone but actively contribute to improving educational outcomes.
The Chief Minister also directed district authorities to hold periodic review meetings with education officials to assess the performance of schools and monitor the implementation of government programmes. He underlined the importance of maintaining close coordination among parents, teachers, students, and local representatives to identify challenges and resolve them at the grassroots level.
A major focus of the discussion was inclusive education. Dr. Saha asked officials to ensure that children with disabilities and special educational needs receive adequate support and access to facilities that enable them to continue their studies without hindrance.
Highlighting the importance of quality education, the Chief Minister said the government is taking steps to strengthen teacher training programmes and improve classroom teaching standards. He also advocated recognising dedicated teachers whose contributions significantly enhance the learning environment in schools.
According to officials, the review meeting examined the overall status of the education sector, including the implementation of ongoing schemes, school management practices, and measures aimed at improving learning outcomes. School Education Secretary Dr. Milind Ramteke presented a detailed report on the department’s activities and progress made in recent months.
District Magistrates and District Education Officers joined the meeting virtually and shared feedback on local challenges and development initiatives undertaken in their respective districts.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to educational reforms, Dr. Saha said Tripura's progress in various sectors must be matched by similar advancements in education, adding that sustained collaboration among administrators, educators, and communities would be crucial in building a stronger and more inclusive education system.
