Tripura Govt introduces new scheme to support students for professional courses

Agartala, July 17: Tripura Government has introduced a new scheme to provide financial support for economically weaker but meritorious SC, ST, OBC and Minority students for higher and vocational education.

Tribal Welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia announced the scheme before the media at his official residence on Saturday after inaugurating a web-portal for online application. He said the scheme is first of its kind in the state.

He said, the government has approved 176 professional courses under this scheme for extending financial benefits to the eligible students.

He said, the key objective of the scheme is to provide financial Support to economically weaker meritorious students belonging to SC, ST, OBC and Minority communities to ensure that they are not deprived of pursuing professional courses. The scheme would not debar the eligible candidates from getting Post-Matric Scholarship as per the norms.

Under this scheme, an assistance of Rs. 1 lakh would be provided to the eligible students in two instalments—the first installment would be released immediately after the admission and the second installment would be given on production of pass certificates of the first year.

The students having 50 percent marks in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations may apply for this benefit at www.twscholarship.com or www.twd.tripura.gov.in from 20/07/2021 to 15/08/2021.

The benefit would only be given in case of admission in any government recognized institutions/ colleges, a press release said. (Credit: Tripura Times)
