Tripura govt plans to modernize police with AI based control room, tech boost: CM

Agartala, Jan 16: In a move to strengthen the police force and improve law and order in Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced that the state government will introduce new technologies, including AI-based control rooms, drone technology, smart CCTVs, and modernized technology at district and state levels.

Dr. Saha made this announcement while addressing the Police Week Parade-2025 at the Manoranjan Debbarma Smriti Police Parade Ground, AD Nagar, Agartala.

“Tripura Police is a pride for us. Last year, we celebrated 150 years of Tripura Police, one of the oldest forces in the country. The police provide us with protection, from safeguarding lives to securing property. When people are in distress and helpless, they turn to the police. We must work with honesty and strive to earn the faith of the people,” Dr. Saha said.

Dr. Saha also expressed gratitude to banks that extended help to the families of martyred police personnel.

“Our government is working for the welfare of the people as well as the police. Law and order is one of the priority sectors of our government. The status of a state is judged based on its law and order. Crime decreased by 19.3% in 2024 compared to 2023. Over the last 10 years, Tripura recorded its lowest crime rate in 2024, including peaceful Lok Sabha and Panchayat elections. The police played a key role in this achievement,” he said.

Dr. Saha, who also serves as the Home Minister of the state, noted that in 2024, property-related crimes decreased by 45%, crimes related to physical assault dropped by 38%, riot-related cases declined by 75%, and crimes against women decreased by 55%.

“Tripura is now on the path of progress and development. The tireless efforts of Tripura Police are reflected in these figures. A significant number of NLFT cadres have surrendered, making Tripura insurgency-free. Tripura Police is actively combating the drug menace. In the past three years, 1,666 NDPS-related cases were registered, and 3,079 persons were arrested. In 2024, drugs worth ₹867 crore were seized, which is 106% higher than in 2023. We are taking strict action against illegal infiltration and have acted against Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators entering Tripura,” said Dr. Saha.

He further informed that Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles have organized over 25,000 social work initiatives in the last three years, benefiting more than 5 lakh people. The government has also increased ration allowances, DA, and uniform allowances.

“In the coming days, new technologies will be introduced at the district and state levels, including AI-based control rooms, drone technology, and smart CCTVs. The government is working on implementing these measures. A new police headquarters is being set up, and plans are underway to modernize East and West Agartala Police Stations. During my meeting with PM Modi, he emphasized the reconstruction of old police stations and residential quarters,” he added.
