Tripura govt provides grants for smartphones to 40,215 students so far

Agartala, July 02: Under the 'Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana’, the Tripura government has so far provided grants for purchasing smartphones to 40,215 final-year college students.
Minister for IT Pranajit Singha Roy said this after launching 'Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana (Special) Scheme at IT Bhavan, Agartala on Tuesday.
Under this scheme, eligible students receive up to Rs. 5000 as a grant for purchasing smartphones. 
Speaking in the event, the IT minister said, the scheme- Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogajog Yojana started in the year 2020 for providing financial assistance for reimbursement for procurement of smartphones upto Rs. 5000 to the final-year college students studying in government institutions.
The scheme was first launched in the year 2020 for the Academic Year 2019-20, where 7,286 students received the benefit. In the Financial Year 2021-22, the scheme was launched for Academic Year 2020-21 benefiting 9,579 students. In the financial year 2022-23, the scheme was launched for AY 2021-22 and 11,892 students received the benefit. In the FY 2023-24, the scheme was launched on 15.12.2023 for the students of AY 2023-24 and payment disbursement of 11,458 has been successfully completed. 
He said, since the inception of the scheme, total 40,215 students have received the benefit. The total expenditure so far stood at Rs. 20.11 crore.
In the Academic Year 2022-23, a total of 12,000 students had missed the scheme coverage in FY 2023-14. On Tuesday, the Finance Minister has launched MYYY special scheme to extend benefit to the left-over students who pursued their final year undergraduate degree in the academic car 2022-23 by relaxing the existing scheme guidelines for which Rs. 10 crore budget has been provisioned in BE 2024-25. 
In the programme, Secretary in-charge to IT department- Viswashree B., Director Jeya Ragul Geshan, and other officials and representatives were present. 
The students and nodal officials from various Institutes were also present in this launching ceremony. The other nodal officers joined the event through video conferencing.
