Tripura govt to bring new policy to promote Orange Economy

Agartala, Mar 16: The Tripura government is set to introduce AVGC-XR Policy to promote the Orange Economy, according to the State Budget 2026-27 presented by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Monday.

The Budget aligning with the vision of Viksit Tripura, the state government proposed several new initiatives to strengthen the IT Sector and Digital Infrastructure.

The key proposals included establishment of Tripura IT & Data Ecosystem Zone (TIDEZ) at Chanmari, Agartala for investment in IT, ITeS and Data Centres.

‘NAVCHETNA’, an initiative to promote technology-driven education, introducing Al, robotics, IoT, coding, and automation through Innovation and Technology Laboratories in institutions, has been proposed.

The government further proposed an AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality) Policy to promote the Orange Economy, positioning Tripura as a hub for creative technology, digital content and immersive media, while encouraging innovation, skill development and employment generation.

Emphasis has been laid on development of Agartala Al City as a flagship digital infrastructure initiative with a state-of-the-art IT Park to promote AI, IT/ITeS, startups, innovation, and large-scale employment generation.

Besides, a Cyber Security Operation Centre (CSOC) has been proposed at Agartala to strengthen the state's digital security ecosystem.

In technical education, a Drone School has been proposed to professionally train Drone Pilot Operators with DGCA-approved licenses.

In the meantime, speaking to the reporters, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha termed the Budget people-oriented.

He said, the Budget proposed to establish Ayurvedic Medical College in Gomati District and Homoeopathic Medical College at Netaji Subhas State Homeopathy Hospital, Agartala with 60 seats each. These institutions will start from next academic session. The proposals also included establishment of Tripura University of Health Sciences.

The Chief Minister also briefed the media about the other major announcements in the State Budget.
