Tripura Govt to establish Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturing Unit at Sabroom

Agartala, July 04: The Tripura government has initiated steps to establish an Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturing Unit at the Integrated AYUSH Hospital in Sabroom, South Tripura district, with the aim of strengthening the state's traditional healthcare infrastructure and ensuring the availability of quality Ayurvedic medicines.

According to the National Ayush Mission, Tripura chapter, a high-level meeting of an Expert Committee was recently held at the office of the Branch Officer (Ayurveda) under the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) at Gurkhabasti, Agartala, to discuss the proposed project.

The meeting focused on formulating a roadmap for setting up the manufacturing facility at the Integrated AYUSH Hospital in Sabroom.

According to official sources, the initiative is expected to enhance the state's self-reliance in the production of Ayurvedic medicines while improving access to high-quality herbal treatments for the public.

The policy-level meeting was chaired by Dr. Gourishankar Bhowmik, Branch Officer (Ayurveda). Members of the Expert Committee and invited officials attended the session, conducting a detailed review of the project and offering key recommendations for its implementation.

In addition to strengthening Ayurvedic services, the project is expected to generate local employment opportunities and promote the cultivation of medicinal plants, opening new avenues for the state's herbal and traditional medicine industry.

Meanwhile, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha already announced the establishment of the state's first Government Ayurvedic Medical college in Gomati district.

He said that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine formally accepted the state’s application on June 18, opening the path for the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Tepania in Udaipur Sub-division, with 60 seats from the academic session 2026-27.
