Agartala, July 15: As part of the Tripura government's ongoing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital to review the progress of various development works.
The visit comes just two days after Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha paid a surprise visit on July 14.
During the inspection, Gitte visited the Medicine Ward, Eye OPD, Dermatology OPD and the "May I Help You" counter. He closely reviewed the ongoing work for setting up a new 24-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the Medicine Ward and held discussions with engineers and architects involved in the project. He instructed them to expedite the construction so that the facility can be commissioned at the earliest.
The Health Secretary also inspected the existing two ICU units with a combined capacity of 14 beds (7+7). Officials said the new 24-bed ICU is expected to become operational soon, significantly enhancing the hospital's critical care capacity.
He further directed the engineering team to immediately begin the installation of a centralized air-conditioning system in the Medicine Ward and ensure its timely completion.
As part of the hospital's long-term infrastructure plan, Gitte inspected the proposed site for a ring road within the GBP Hospital campus and discussed its implementation with architects. He also visited the Trauma Centre and the new Central Laboratory building to assess the progress of ongoing works.
To improve patient assistance and hospital management, the Health Secretary instructed officials to establish a "May I Help You" counter in front of the hospital's main gate and deploy security personnel at the facility.
Among those present during the visit were AGMC and GBP Principal Prof. (Dr.) Tapan Majumdar, Medical Superintendent (In-Charge) Dr. Kanak Chowdhury, Joint Director (Administration), department heads, and senior doctors.
