Agartala, Sept 2: Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman represented the state at the two-day “Departmental Summit on Water” organised by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti at Sushma Swaraj Bhavan in New Delhi.

The summit, chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil, brought together ministers, secretaries and senior officials from the Centre and various state governments to deliberate on key issues related to water management.

According to Barman, discussions at the summit focused on water conservation, sustainable management of water resources, ensuring access to safe drinking water, rejuvenation of water sources and the effective implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The Tripura minister also shared the state’s experiences, achievements and challenges in the water sector while exchanging views on best practices adopted by other states.

The discussions provided an opportunity to explore ways to strengthen water-resource management in Tripura and ensure a more effective and sustainable supply of safe drinking water across the state.

“Water is life, and its conservation and protection is a collective responsibility,” Barman said.

He added that the state’s efforts would continue in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Har Ghar Jal” vision, with the aim of contributing to the creation of a water-secure, prosperous and developed India.

From Tripura, Rural Development Secretary Abhishek Singh also attended the summit and deliberated on the topic.
