A delegation of Samajpatis (community elders) representing various tribal communities of Tripura met Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at his official residence on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the Samajpatis apprised the Chief Minister of several key issues, including the implementation and recognition of tribal customary laws, the development of temples, and other concerns pertaining to tribal welfare.
They also placed specific demands before the Chief Minister on behalf of their respective communities.
In response, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that the state government is committed to the holistic development of the tribal population.
He said that the demands raised by the Samajpatis will be addressed gradually, and the government is equally attentive to the socio-economic upliftment of the Samajpatis themselves.
Touching upon the issue of Betlingchhip in Jampui Hills, where a dispute with the neighbouring Mizoram state persists, the Chief Minister informed that the matter has already been brought to the notice of the Central Government.
He added that discussions have also been held with the Chief Minister of Mizoram to resolve the matter amicably.
Dr. Saha assured the delegation that he will personally visit Betlingchhip in the coming days.
The delegation included Samajpatis from the Tripuri, Mog, Murasingh, and Reang tribal communities.
