
Agartala, May 28: All the district administrations in Tripura have been asked to stay prepared as the state is likely to experience intense downpour over the next few days.
On Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for the next three days.
It predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall and squally/gusty winds across Tripura up to May 31.
A red alert has been issued for West Tripura and Khowai districts and orange alerts have been issued for the other districts, valid from 08:30 am of 29.05.2025 to 08:30 am of next day.
During this period, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) at a few places with Isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) is very likely to occur over West and Khowai districts. In other districts, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20cm) is very likely to occur.
As predicted by the IMD, thunderstorms with lightning and squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Tripura.
An orange alert has been sounded for North Tripura, Dhalai, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura districts, valid from 08:30 am of 30.05.2025 to 08:30 am of 31.05.2025. During this period, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) is very likely to occur in these districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning and squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph have also been predicted while heavy rainfall (7-11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over rest districts of Tripura.
In the weather forecast and warning valid from 08:30 am of 31.05.2025 to 08:30 am of 01.06.2025 (yellow alert), heavy rainfall (7-11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over North, Unakoti and Dhalai districts.
The IMD also predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts.
According to the press release, a well-marked low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast persists over the same region at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 28th May 2025. Associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height.
It is likely to move slowly northwards and concentrate into a Depression over north Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall and squally/gusty winds is very likely to occur over the districts of Tripura.
