Agartala, Oct 10: A tourist's experience of Tripura often begins long before reaching a hotel or visiting a landmark, with the first interaction taking place at the airport and during the journey to the destination. Emphasizing the importance of this first impression, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has called for greater professionalism and warm hospitality among prepaid taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers.
Ahead of Sharadotsav, the Transport Department of the Tripura government organised a uniform distribution programme for prepaid taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport. Chowdhury attended the programme and handed over uniforms to the drivers as part of an initiative to promote disciplined and passenger-friendly transport services.
The initiative seeks to strengthen the quality and reliability of airport transport while ensuring that tourists and other passengers enjoy safe, comfortable and hassle-free journeys.
Highlighting the importance of uniforms, the minister said they represent more than professional attire, reflecting discipline, responsibility and cleanliness. He noted that drivers transporting passengers from the airport to different destinations play an important role in shaping the perception of visitors about the state.
Invoking the age-old Indian principle of Atithi Devo Bhava, which regards guests as equivalent to God, Chowdhury urged drivers to treat every passenger with courtesy, respect and a spirit of cooperation. He stressed that responsible conduct, honesty and personal cleanliness could go a long way in strengthening Tripura's reputation as a tourist destination.
With visitors from different parts of India and abroad arriving in the state, the minister underscored the need for transport workers to uphold high standards of service and hospitality.
He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by the government and transport service providers would help make Tripura a safer, more welcoming and attractive destination for tourists.
The minister also called for a collective commitment to creating positive travel experiences, stating that the warmth of Tripura's people and the quality of its services should leave visitors with lasting memories of the state.
Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma, Director Prasant Badal Negi, SP Traffic Kanta Jangir and other officials were present in the programme.
