Agartala, Sept 29: West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will be part of India’s Parliamentary Delegation attending the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Deb is scheduled to be in New York from October 5 to 9 as part of the Indian parliamentary delegation and will take part in programmes and engagements associated with the UNGA session.

The 81st UNGA is set to deliberate on several pressing global challenges, with India placing emphasis on issues concerning the Global South, sustainable development, climate change, development financing, counter-terrorism, artificial intelligence, maritime security, peacekeeping and reform of the United Nations.

India’s priorities for the session, outlined in a paper issued by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN, underline New Delhi’s continued engagement with the multilateral system and its efforts to bring greater focus to the developmental concerns of countries across the Global South.

Deb’s participation comes as part of India’s wider parliamentary outreach at the international level. During the visit, the delegation is expected to engage with representatives and stakeholders on matters of international importance and articulate India’s perspectives on key global issues.

The discussions surrounding the UNGA are also expected to cover emerging technologies, international cooperation, global peace and security and the challenges faced by developing countries.

According to Deb’s office, his participation in the delegation will provide an opportunity to contribute to parliamentary dialogue on issues of shared international concern and strengthen India’s engagement through parliamentary diplomacy.
