Agartala, Jan 21: Tripura on Tuesday celebrated its Statehood Day through colourful programmes and distribution of prestigious Civilian Awards.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, along with several other ministers and officials joined the state-level programme at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several Union Ministers greeted the people of Tripura on this occasion.
In his Statehood Day address, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s major achievements and progress in various sectors including the economic growth.
He said, Tripura has the second highest GSDP in the North East region. He said, in the coming days, the country’s GDP would see an increase in the North East’s contribution.
The Chief Minister also mentioned about the Central Government’s support to the state in various matters.
“A new chapter has started in Tripura. This is a day to remember the people who worked for the state. Due to the tireless support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura is progressing towards development. Whenever we requested anything from the Central Government during problematic times, they immediately helped us. During the flood in 2024, the Centre supported us by sending additional NDRF teams, helicopters, and other resources,” he said.
Dr. Saha mentioned that Tripura faced massive losses across all sectors during the flood, but with the Central Government's assistance, the state overcame the situation.
“In our state, a section of people tries to create issues, but we address these promptly and ensure peace. Peace is necessary for maintaining development, and with peace, tourist inflow will increase. The number of tourist spots has also grown," he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state's key achievements in various fields.
"Our government is working for overall development. In the North East region, Tripura has the second highest GSDP. The country’s GDP will also benefit from the contributions of the North East in the coming days. In terms of Sustainable Development Goals, Tripura moved from a performer state to a front-runner, first-moving state in 2023-24. Tripura is progressing across all sectors," Dr. Saha said.
He also noted, the budget allocation for state is Rs 28,000 and the state’s own revenue stands at Rs 3,700 crore. After spending the budget across various sectors including salaries, we have a surplus of around Rs 10,000 crores, which includes allocation of 25% for TTAADC and 10% for ULBs and others.
He further added that PM Modi has given Tripura the HIRA model, encompassing highways, improved flight services, and the first internet connectivity in the state.
“Now, many people from outside the state are coming here for investment. We have started the Tripura Startup Policy and UNNATI Schemes. The state government has also launched the CM Jan Arogya Yojana and has been working towards establishing good governance. PM Modi has always emphasized women’s empowerment, as around 50% of the population are women. In this regard, the number of SHGs has increased to 56,000,” he added.
During the event, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Cooperation Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Tinku Roy, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DG (Intelligence) Anurag, and ICA Secretary PK Chakraborty were present.
