Tripura Police restricts reels, social media contents by personnel in uniform

Agartala, June 13: The West Tripura District Police has issued a directive prohibiting police and TSR personnel from creating reels and other social media contents while in uniform, citing concerns over maintaining the dignity and professional image of the force.

The order was issued through a memorandum from the office of the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, following reports that some police personnel had been uploading reels, short videos and other social media contents in uniform on various digital platforms.

The memorandum emphasizes that the police uniform represents authority, discipline, integrity and public trust, and therefore must not be used for personal promotion or activities that could adversely affect the reputation of the department.

"Police Uniform shall not be used for personal publicity, entertainment purposes, commercial promotion, or any activity that may bring disrepute to the department."

The directive further instructs all members of the police force to refrain from creating, participating in, or uploading videos, photographs, reels or any other social media content while wearing official uniform if such content has the potential to compromise the discipline, decorum or public image of the Tripura Police.

"Any objectionable, derogatory, or inappropriate content involving Police personnel in uniform noticed on social media platforms shall be immediately reported through the proper channel for necessary action."

The district police administration has warned that violations of the new guidelines will invite strict disciplinary measures under the applicable service rules.

"Any violation of these instructions shall be viewed seriously and shall attract strict departmental action against the concerned personnel in accordance with the relevant disciplinary rules."

Officials said the move is aimed at preserving the professionalism of the force and ensuring that the official uniform is used only for lawful and official purposes. The memorandum reiterates that every police personnel is expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct and professionalism while in uniform.
