Tripura sees significant decline in unemployment rate: Minister

Agartala, Jan 11: Tripura saw a significant decline in the unemployment rate, Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Tinku Roy informed the Assembly on Thursday.

In reference to a private member resolution moved by MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath, Roy cited the report of Periodic Labour Force survey and said that the unemployment rate had come down to only 1.4 percent from July, 2022 to June 2023.
Roy said, as per a report of March 2018, the total number of registered unemployed persons in the state was 7,41,305. The figure, according to the National Career Service portal, was 2,79,251 as on November 30, 2023.
He said, the state government is aware of the unemployment issue and hence the recruitment drive is continuing. Giving more details, Roy said, a good number of youths were given government jobs over the past five and half years.
He said, as many as 6,571 TET qualified candidates were appointed as teachers in the government schools since 2018-19. Besides, 88 aspirants were also given regular jobs as Special Educators.
Under the Education department, 100 posts Group-C (LDC) and Group-D were filled up and 119 Sub-Inspectors and Constables were also recruited in Tripura Police since 2018-19. In addition, two IR battalions of TSR were raised with the recruitment of 1413 jawans. In various other posts of Group-C and Group-D, 288 persons were given regular jobs. The number of SPOs recruited from 2018-19 to 2023-24 stood 1262.
Roy also added that 1208 persons were given jobs under various departments through Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) since 2018-19. Besides, the state government recently distributed offers among 1980 candidates, who qualified the examinations of Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT) for Group-C posts. The process for filling up 2500 Group-D posts is also underway.
Under the National Health Mission, 1015 persons were given jobs in the posts of doctors and other contractual posts between 2018-19 and December, last year.
Over the past five years, 22,000 youths were given training under the Skill Development Mission and the majority of the trained youths got employment opportunities outside the state.
Roy also informed the House that over 47,000 Self Help Groups were formed with involvement of 4.5 lakh women since 2018-19 and they were given loan of Rs. 1056 crore. He also shared the other employment scopes created by the state government and support provided to the unemployed youths.
Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma, MLA Jitendra Chaudhury, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, MLA Biswajit Kalai and MLA Kishore Barman also took part in the discussions. After the discussions, the House accepted the Private Member Resolution with amendment.
