Agartala, Jan 11: In a significant move toward advancing Tripura’s digital infrastructure, the state is set to establish a modern three-tier Data Centre, with land already allocated for the ambitious project. Information Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy announced this in the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Friday.
The IT Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NIXI-CSC Data Service Limited to develop the Data Centre, with M/s Bharti Airtel Limited being allocated 1 acre of land for the initiative. The project is expected to bring in over ₹200 crore in investment and create employment opportunities for around 200 individuals, the IT Minister told the House on the first day of the on-going Winter Session.
While addressing a private member resolution moved by MLA Abhishek Debroy, the Minister further disclosed that another investor, M/s PVM Invensys Private Limited, has proposed a tier-four Data Centre in Tripura with an estimated investment of ₹100 crore. If approved, this additional project could provide employment for more than 100 people.
Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury and MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath actively participated in the discussions, underscoring the importance of IT-driven development for the state.
The Minister highlighted that several IT companies have already established their offices in Tripura, offering promising employment opportunities to local youth. The state government, he said, is focused on achieving its vision of ‘Digital Tripura’ by inviting renowned IT companies from across the country and abroad to invest in the state. Necessary support and incentives will be provided to encourage such investments.
These initiatives are seen as vital steps in positioning Tripura as a significant player in India’s IT and digital ecosystem, ensuring robust infrastructure and enhanced employment for the state’s growing workforce.
