Tripura set to enter new phase of rail connectivity with electric train service

Agartala, June 14: Rail connectivity in Tripura moved a step forward on Sunday as a 12-coach electric Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train successfully reached Sabroom railway station as part of the trial run.
The train arrived in the afternoon and generated significant interest among local residents and railway passengers, many of whom gathered at the station to witness the arrival of the electric service.
The trial run forms part of the railway authorities’ on-going efforts to prepare the route for the introduction of regular electric train operations in the region.
Officials associated with the exercise indicated that the trial was conducted to evaluate the readiness of the railway infrastructure and assess operational requirements before launching passenger services. Technical observations recorded during the run will be reviewed by railway authorities as part of the approval process.
Sources said the proposed MEMU service is expected to connect Sabroom with Karimganj, providing a faster and more efficient travel option for daily commuters and long-distance passengers. The introduction of electric train services is also expected to improve operational efficiency while supporting environmentally sustainable transportation.
The loco crew involved in the trial run expressed satisfaction with the initial performance of the train. A detailed report on the trial's findings will be submitted to higher railway authorities for further evaluation.
Residents of Sabroom and adjoining areas welcomed the development, expressing hope that regular MEMU services would enhance connectivity up tothe southern part of the state.
