The vision and objective:

Tripura occupies a strategically important position under India's Act East Policy. With increasing global connectivity and emerging opportunities in tourism, hospitality, international trade, business services and technology sectors, the demand for skilled manpower with communication skills and foreign language proficiency is growing rapidly.

This project has been designed to meet exactly this need and to open new doors for the young generation of the State.

Through this initiative, the Ramakrishna Mission will set up a School of Languages offering certificate courses in popular foreign languages such as German, French, Japanese and Spanish etc along with important Indian languages including Sanskrit, Hindi and Bengali.

Under the Centre for Human Excellence, a three-month Personality Development Course will be conducted, covering Swami Vivekananda's message to youth, management skills, self-confidence, cultural values, positive thinking and will power.

The Centre will also organize a Parents' Motivational Course and a Value Education Programme to involve families and strengthen moral values among students.

In addition, special workshops will be held for students of Class IX to XII to help them master their subjects, manage their time and improve concentration in their studies.

The campus will be equipped with modern facilities such as a Computer Training Centre, computer and language laboratories, a meditation hall, digital and book libraries, smart classes and a seminar hall with audio-visual systems.

This initiative is a recognition of the remarkable contribution of the Ramakrishna Mission towards education, value-based learning and human development across the country, and especially in Tripura.

A press release said, the teachings and ideals of Swami Vivekananda continue to inspire generations and guide our youth towards discipline, character, service, and nation-building. Today's initiative is not merely the establishment of another institution; it is a visionary step towards preparing the youth of Tripura for the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing global scenario, according to a press release.

Youth Empowerment and Opportunities:

According to officials, the Government of Tripura is committed to creating a skilled, employable and future-ready workforce. It is continuously working towards expanding opportunities for the young generation through various initiatives and collaborations, and this partnership with the Ramakrishna Mission is another important milestone in that direction.

It is expected that the School of Languages and Centre for Human Excellence will emerge as a premier institution not only for Tripura but for the entire North-Eastern region. It will help the youth compete confidently on national and international platforms and open new avenues for employment and personal growth.

With the combined efforts, this initiative aims to empower the youth and contribute to the overall development of Tripura. It is a call for all to work together for the empowerment of the youth and the progress of the State.

CM Dr. Manik Saha calls it a ‘milestone’:

Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha said that the initiative to establish a Language and Human Excellence Institute in the state will be considered a milestone in the coming days and will play a leading role in the field of education and skill development of the youth of the state.

The Chief Minister said that the establishment of this educational institution is a far-reaching and timely step.

“Hindi, Sanskrit and Bengali languages will be taught in the School of Languages along with German, French and Spanish. Moreover, the Human Excellence Centre will have a computer training centre, language laboratories, a meditation hall, smart classrooms, etc.,” he said.

The Chief Minister also said on the occasion that at present, the youth of the state are facing various challenges in terms of life and livelihood.

“The youth will benefit from getting educated here and securing employment in the country and abroad. It is to be noted that initially this institution will be started with 100 students at the Ramakrishna Mission on Gangail Road. Later, the main institution will be set up on the Ramakrishna Mission’s own land in Dhaleswar. It will be able to admit 1,000 students every year,” said Dr. Saha.

Dr. Saha also said that India is one of the leading countries in the world in terms of youth resources.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives utmost importance to this youth resource for the welfare of the country. Therefore, the central and state governments have taken various effective plans to develop the skills of this youth community from the very beginning. For the welfare of the country and society, we need an educated, moral and humane youth community, whose discipline, character formation and dedication to human service will help in building a healthy and beautiful society,” he said.

TIFT’s Role & Initial Groundwork:

Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) has played a key role in conceptualising the proposed first Foreign Language School of the North-East to be established in Tripura, as part of the State’s larger vision to emerge as a Knowledge and Skill Hub of the region.

The initiative was shaped by TIFT’s ongoing work on skill-gap assessment and its efforts to identify future-ready skilling opportunities for the youth of Tripura, particularly in globally relevant sectors such as healthcare, caregiving, hospitality, IT and emerging service industries.

Recognising the growing international demand for skilled professionals with foreign language proficiency, TIFT initiated the idea of a dedicated foreign language institution that could prepare Tripura’s youth for overseas employment and global workforce mobility.

As part of the initial groundwork, TIFT opened communication with the authorities of Ramakrishna Mission in early 2025 and pursued the proposal by highlighting the Mission’s strong legacy in value-based education, discipline and vocational training.

TIFT’s persuasive role helped position the initiative as a strategic partnership opportunity, drawing inspiration from successful language institutions run by Ramakrishna Mission in other parts of the country.

After the concept was developed and formally advanced, the project was handed over to the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, as the nodal department for taking the proposal forward through the appropriate departmental and government approval process.
