Tripura sets target to produce 500MW renewable energy by 2030: Power minister

Agartala, Oct 06: A target has been set to produce 500 MW renewable energy in Tripura by 2032, said Power minister Ratanlal Nath.
Addressing a press conference at the secretariat, Nath on Friday said, he attended a meeting with the Union Minister of Power and Renewable Energy R.K. Singh in New Delhi on Thursday.
The meeting focused on production of renewable energy in the country by 2070, Nath said, adding that the Power ministers of North-eastern states and secretaries of the department had attended the meeting. The state government’s proposals and plans on renewable energy were discussed in the meeting.
Nath said, arrangements for conservation of 2000 MW solar power would be required to generate proposed 500 MW renewable energy in the state. In that case, a Rs. 2000-crore project would be undertaken for the North-eastern states.
The Power minister said, initiatives would be taken to install rooftop solar panels in every government establishment and houses. He said, various plans are also in the pipeline for setting up solar park, floating solar power plant, hydro pump storage, setting up solar village and solar city, small hydra project and utilizing solar power for irrigation.
He also said, a plan has been taken to set up offgrid power plants in three sub-divisions. He also said, 3 lakhs solar study lamps have been distributed in 3,335 schools and more 3.50 lakhs solar study lamps would be distributed.
Director of Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) Mahananda Debbarma was also present in the press conference.
