Agartala, Nov 07: Taking sustainable development to the last mile, Tripura government has set up the country’s first ‘Bio Village 2.0 Solar Hamlet’ at Karan Singh Para under Killla Block in Gomati district.
According to Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, who recently inaugurated the Solar Hamlet, organic farming, livestock, fishery, mushroom cultivation etc are being done under guidance of the Directorate of Bio Technology.
Tripura Renewable Energy Dev Agency (TREDA) under the Power department has set up solar water purification system for safe drinking water, solar street lights, bio gas plants, solar micro grid for free power supply to the beneficiaries, solar irrigation pumps for multiple cropping so that marginal farmers double their income. Besides, TREDA also distributed bio mass cook stoves to all families, Dev Varma wrote in a social media post.
The Rural Development department constructed a concrete road in the village along with stalls and extensively modernized the community hall.
The Deputy Chief Minister in a social media post said, LED Lights and power efficient fans have been distributed to all 61 families in the village.
He wrote that the inauguration of the Bio Village 2.0 Solar Hamlet was also observed as the Gram Diwas where all the people of the village ate together and the eminent persons were felicitated with a mento to commemorate this day.
The Bio Village 2.0 cum Solar Hamlet is a concept to increase the income of the villagers, safeguard their health and their environment, lighting up lives and transforming the economy.
According to official sources, while the concept of bio village was already there in the country, the Solar Hamlet is a different one. In this project, both Bio Village and Solar Hamlet concepts were added together making it Bio village 2.0.
The Deputy Chief Minister has congratulated the Science and Bio Technology department for developing the project.
