Agartala, June 29: Tripura is set to strengthen its public healthcare infrastructure after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the installation of advanced diagnostic equipment in the state.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced that the initiative, supported through the Prime Minister's Fund, will equip government hospitals with modern imaging and diagnostic technologies to improve access to quality healthcare, particularly in district-level facilities.
Under the agreement, Tripura will receive 48 AI-enabled portable handheld X-ray machines, three 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners, and three Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) mammography units. The equipment is expected to enhance diagnostic capabilities and facilitate early detection of critical illnesses.
According to the Chief Minister, the MRI scanners and mammography units will be installed at the district hospitals in Dhalai, North Tripura, and Gomati, expanding access to advanced medical services for residents of these regions.
The AI-enabled handheld X-ray machines will support faster and more efficient diagnostic services, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas, where access to conventional imaging facilities remains limited.
Dr. Saha described the development as a significant step towards modernising Tripura's healthcare system and improving patient care across the state. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for extending continued support to strengthen the state's medical infrastructure.
The initiative is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel outside their districts for advanced diagnostic tests while enhancing the capacity of government hospitals to deliver specialized healthcare services.
