Tripura student’s tragic end in Delhi: Body found in Yamuna river, suicide suspected

The search for 19-year-old Sneha Debnath, a college student from Tripura who went missing in Delhi earlier this week, ended in heartbreak as her body was recovered from the Yamuna River on Sunday.

Sneha, a resident of Sabroom in South Tripura district, was studying at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College under Delhi University. She had been untraceable since July 7 morning.

Upon learning of her disappearance, the Tripura Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) swiftly intervened, coordinating with Delhi Police to intensify search efforts.

The collaboration proved instrumental in locating the body, which was later confirmed to be that of Sneha.

Initial findings hint at a possible case of suicide, as authorities suspect she may have jumped into the river. However, police have not ruled out other possibilities, and a full-scale investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances leading to her death.

Media reports confirmed that a hand written suicide note was recovered from the deceased's hostel.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Sneha’s grieving family. He also instructed officials at Tripura Bhawan in Delhi to extend all possible support to the bereaved.

The Chief Minister has further called for a comprehensive probe into the incident.
