Tripura to go to polls in 2 phases on Apr 19, 26, Ramnagar by-poll on Apr 19

Agartala, Mar 16: The two parliamentary constituencies- West Tripura and East Tripura will go to polls on April 19 and 26 respectively.

As announced by the Election Commission of India, by-election to Ramnagar Assembly constituency would take place on April 19. The by-poll has been necessitated following death of sitting BJP MLA Surajit Dutta 
The results of the polls would be declared on June 4 next. 
The last date for withdrawal of candidature for West Tripura seat is March 30 and for East Tripura seat the last date is April 8.
With the announcement of the election, the state is expected to start witnessing high-voltage political campaigns.
This time the poll battle will mainly take place between BJP-Tipra Motha- IPFT alliance and INDIA bloc.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has replaced Pratima Bhoumik and fielded Biplab Kumar Deb as the candidate in West Tripura seat. Besides, the ruling BJP nominated Kriti Singh Debbarma in the East Tripura seat.
The Congress so far announced state president Asish Kumar Saha as the candidate from West Tripura seat, while the CPI-M is yet to announce its candidate.
Meanwhile, in West Tripura constituency, the total number of voters is 14,61,836. The figure included 7,33,464 male voters, 7,28,314 female voters and 58 third genders.
Similarly, in the East Tripura seat, a total of 13,95,089 voters are enrolled to exercise their democratic rights. There are 7,01,708 male voters, 6,93,365 female voters and 16 third genders.
According to official sources, the state election machinery has already started preparations including security planning and training of poll personnel for smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha polls.
