Agartala, Sept 3: A new chapter of technology-driven modernisation has been added to Tripura’s transport and tourism sectors with the launch of app-based cab service Uber and a Tourism Information Centre at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.

Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated the two facilities and described the initiative as an important step towards making transportation more convenient and tourism more accessible in the state.

The inauguration programme also virtually connected Agartala Railway Station and Jogendranagar Railway Station. With this initiative, app-based cab services were launched simultaneously at the airport and the two major railway stations, creating easier and more convenient transportation options for passengers and tourists arriving in Tripura.

The Minister said the integrated use of technology would provide passengers with more convenient, safe and comfortable connectivity from key transportation hubs such as the airport and railway stations.

He said the government is committed to using digital technology to modernise the state’s transport system, enhance convenience for travellers and create new attractions for tourists.

“By making the best use of digital technology, our commitment is to develop Tripura as a modern, safe and tourist-friendly state,” Chowdhury said.

The launch is expected to strengthen last-mile connectivity for passengers and tourists while contributing to the modernisation of Tripura’s transport and tourism infrastructure.

Speaking on this occasion, the Tourism Minister said, the use of modern technology at the airport and tourism services is drawing attention of the tourists. He said, despite the airport having modern infrastructure, the absence of modern transport system outside it may create a negative image about the state. Keeping that in mind for the convenience of tourists, this App-based cab and auto-rickshaw service has been launched. Passengers will be at an ease to choose between cab or auto-rickshaw service. Considering the interest of common people and keeping abreast of other states' infrastructure, the transport system in Tripura will also be modernized in a phased manner.

The minister also deliberated on improved hospitality, transportation, accommodation and food facilities in the state. He opined that if a positive image is created in the tourists' minds they would repeatedly come to visit the state. In that case a positive image of the state will also develop at the national and international level. The TIC Metaverse experience about different tourist spots of Tripura will enrich the knowledge of tourists about the state. At the same time the App-based transport service will definitely boost passenger service and tourism management.

At the programme among others were present tourism and transport secretary U.K. Chakma, director of MBB Airport K.M. Nehra, SP Namit Pathak, director of tourism department Prashant Badal Negi, transport commissioner Subrata Choudhury and other concerned officials. Welcome address was delivered by the transport and tourism secretary UK Chakma and transport commissioner Subrata Choudhury proposed the vote of thanks.
