Agartala, Sept 10: The nomination process for the 2026 TTAADC Village Committee elections has moved to the next stage, with 10,889 nomination papers cleared following scrutiny, according to the State Election Commission.

State Election Commissioner Dr P.K. Chakraborty said the scrutiny was conducted by the respective Returning Officers in accordance with the provisions of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Village Committee (Election Conduct) Rules, 1996.

A total of 10,961 nomination papers had been submitted by 10,938 candidates. Of these, 72 nomination papers were rejected during scrutiny. The rejected papers, however, involve only 49 candidates, as some candidates had filed more than one nomination paper.

The Commission clarified that rejection of an individual nomination paper does not automatically disqualify a candidate. A candidate remains eligible to contest if another nomination paper submitted by them has been found valid.

The scrutiny figures also provide an indication of the scale of participation in the upcoming polls. The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) accounted for the highest number of nominations filed, with 4,391, followed by the CPI(M) with 2,487 and the BJP with 1,974. The IPFT submitted 486 nominations, the INC 466, the CPI four and other candidates 1,153.

After scrutiny, 4,361 TMP nominations, 2,456 CPI(M) nominations, 1,971 BJP nominations, 483 IPFT nominations, 465 INC nominations, four CPI nominations and 1,149 nominations under the Others category were accepted.

Of the 72 rejected nomination papers, 31 were from CPI(M), 30 from TMP, three each from BJP and IPFT, one from INC and four from the Others category. No CPI nomination paper was rejected.

In terms of candidates affected by rejection, the figures stand at 27 from CPI(M), 11 from TMP, three each from BJP and IPFT, one from INC and four from other categories. No CPI candidate was affected.

With scrutiny now complete, candidates have the opportunity to withdraw their candidature. The Election Commission has fixed September 11, 2026, at 3 pm as the deadline.

A candidate seeking withdrawal must submit a signed written notice to the Returning Officer personally or through a duly authorised election agent within the prescribed time.

The final shape of the electoral contest will emerge only after the withdrawal process concludes. Candidates whose nominations have been finally accepted and who do not withdraw by the deadline will remain in the electoral fray.

The final list of candidates for the 2026 TTAADC Village Committee elections will be clear after the withdrawal deadline.
