Tripura youth tells Prime Minister how solar power brought changes in his village

Kalaha Reang, a youth among the villagers of Nonacherra under Mugniakami RD Block in Khowai district of Tripura, had to travel a long distance for charging his mobile phone due to non-availability of electricity even a few months ago.

But, a Microgrid Solar Power Plant installed under Saubhagya Yojana has brought a huge change in the entire village as the villagers now have access to electricity, one of the basic amenities for daily life. 

The youth said, the villagers are now able to charge our mobile phones and watch TV without travelling a long distance. He was interacting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Yes, you read it right.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday interacted with the beneficiaries of various schemes including power sector across the country through a video conference to mark ‘Ujjal Bharat, Ujjal Bhavisya- Power@2047’.

Kalaha Reang of Tripura is one among beneficiaries of Saubhagya Scheme who had the opportunity to interact with the Prime Minister and share his experience on how the electricity brought a robust change in his village. 

Replying to a query of the Prime Minister, the youth said the Solar Power plant reduced dependence of the villagers on kerosene.
 
When the Prime Minister further asked about other changes came with the arrival of electricity, the youth said, solar power has improved the education of children, and local industries and evening life has also undergone a change. 

The Prime Minister encouraged the youth to utilize educational channels run by the government on TV and save electricity.
 
In the virtual interaction programme, Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Secretary of Power department Brijesh Pandey, District Magistrate of Khowai L.T. Darlong, Tripura Sports Council secretary Amit Rakhsit, Sabhadhipati of Khowai Zila Joydeb Debbarma, Project Director of Power Grid Corporation Abhoy Chowdhury, Director General of Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency Mahananda Debbarma, Project Director Swaraj Debbarma and officials of TSECL were also present.
