Tripura's brave son martyred in Maoist attack conferred 'Kirti Chakra'

Agartala, July 11: A CRPF CoBRA commando from Tripura, Sambhu Roy, who made supreme sacrifice in a Maoist attack in April 2021, was conferred prestigious Kirti Chakra posthumously.

As a tribute to indomitable courage and extraordinary valour in the line of duty displayed by Tripura's brave son, President of India Draupadi Murmu presented the Kirti Chakra posthumously to his parents on July 5 last.
Roy, who hailed from Bhagyapur village in Dharmanagar, North Tripura District, joined the CRPF in 2015 and later served the 210 Cobra Commando unit.
Born on June 18, 1990, Roy made the supreme sacrifice on April 3, 2021.
Dwijraj Roy, father of rhe martyr, recalled that Sambhu had returned home for a 20-day leave in March 2021 and reported back to duty on April 1. He was then dispatched to the CRPF camp in Chhattisgarh.
On April 2, Sambhu spoke to his father for the last time before embarking on a mission with his commando team into the Tekalguda jungle to confront Maoists. The following day, while returning from the jungle, his team was ambushed by the Maoists from three sides.
Despite being wounded, Sambhu and other commandos bravely fought back, killing five Maoists and capturing another with a rifle.
Unfortunately, Sambhu was critically injured by a bomb explosion and died at the scene. The encounter resulted in the loss of 22 CRPF men, including eight from the Cobra unit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and other dignitaries were in attendance during the award event held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on July 5 last.
Sambhu's family has constructed a temple beside the house, where a marble statue of the Martyr will soon be installed.
