Agartala, July 2: In a major achievement for Tripura, Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat under Mohanpur RD Block has been honoured with the prestigious National e-Governance Award 2026 for its outstanding initiatives in smart e-panchayat governance and delivery of improved public services at the grassroots level.
The recognition was conferred during the 29th National e-Governance Conference held at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur, where Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat received the prestigious Silver Award, marking a historic national recognition for rural governance in Tripura.
The award was presented during the closing session of the conference by Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India.
Representing Tripura, Abhishek Singh, Secretary of the Rural Development (Panchayat) Department, received the national honour on behalf of the state government.
Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat secured the award under the category “Grassroots Level Initiatives by Gram Panchayats for Deepening and Widening Service Delivery.” Notably, only two Gram Panchayats across India were selected for this prestigious recognition, with Bijoynagar emerging as one of them. Along with the award, the Panchayat has also received a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.
The Panchayat earned this distinction by successfully transforming local governance into a digital, transparent, accountable, and citizen-centric service system. Its performance was reflected in the Panchayat Advancement Index 2.0, where it scored an impressive 88.55 points, earning an A Grade rating.
Several innovative initiatives and milestones contributed to this remarkable success. These include becoming the first Gram Panchayat in Tripura to complete 100 percent legacy data digitization, providing over 100 online public services, implementing an e-office system, ensuring 100 percent digital literacy among local women, effectively using the “Gram Barta” voice-based update platform, introducing artificial intelligence-based education and capacity-building initiatives, and achieving an unprecedented 194 percent increase in self-generated revenue collection.
Through these technology-driven innovations, Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat has not only brought pride to Tripura but has also emerged as a national model for sustainable, modern, and self-reliant rural local governance, setting a new benchmark for village-level administration across India.
