Tripura’s 'Bio Village' appreciated in PM’s Maan Ki Baat

Agartala, Oct 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed the Bio Village project of Tripura in his popular Maan Ki Baat programme.

Speaking about eco-friendly living, the Prime Minister said, some villages in Tripura have set very good examples.
 
“You must have heard about Bio-Village, but some villages of Tripura have ascended to the level of Bio-Village 2. Bio-Village 2 emphasizes how to minimize the damage caused by natural disasters,” the Prime Minister said.
 
He also said, full attention is given to improve the quality of life of the people through various measures. There is complete focus on Solar Energy, Biogas, Bee Keeping and Bio Fertilizers.
 
“Overall, Bio-Village 2 is going to lend a lot of strength to the campaign against climate change. I am very happy to see the increasing enthusiasm for environmental protection in different parts of the country,” he commented.
 
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, who worked hard for implementing the project, extended gratitude to the Prime Minister for highlighting this initiative before the countrymen through Maan Ki Baat.
 
The Deputy Chief Minister in a social media post lauded the efforts of the Directorate of Bio-Technology under the Science, Technology and Environment department in implementing this project.
 
“We thank the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, for recognition of our pioneering Bio Village 2.0 in his Mann Ki Baat today (30th Oct 2022). This is undertaken by my department - Directorate of Bio Tech Govt of Tripura. Congratulations to all involved in this project. Hardwork, dedication and innovation is always recognised,” Dev Varma wrote.

The project was undertaken during the tenure of the then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. 

"Thank you Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji for recognising a small village of Tripura which is India’s first Bio-Village in Mann Ki Baat today. The people of Tripura are thankful to you for your special attention towards Tripura," Deb wrote on social media.
 
An official source said, the Tripura government has set a target to develop 100 Bio villages in the state. Among them, works for 10 Bio villages have already been completed; the first Bio village has been set up at Daspara in Charilam constituency under Sepahijala district.
 
The bio village project aims to provide sustainable livelihood and food security to ensure holistic socio-economic development among rural communities.
 
The main objective of the project is to promote green technology like solar water pumps, biomass cook stoves, and biogas plants for sustainable production of agricultural products.
