An ambitious plan of the Tripura government to develop the state’s first satellite town in Udaipur under Land Pooling Scheme is gaining momentum and talks with landowners are also progress considerably.

A second round of discussions with landowners was held at the Rajarshi auditorium in Udaipur on Monday, marking another step towards taking forward the proposed urban development project.

Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, who chaired the meeting, said the administrative process for the satellite town has made significant progress and stressed that the cooperation of landowners would be critical to the project’s successful implementation.

“Land is one of the most important components of this project,” the minister said, underlining the importance of maintaining regular dialogue with those whose land is involved in the proposed development.

The meeting provided a platform for detailed discussions on the project and for landowners to share their views and concerns with the authorities. According to the minister, such consultations are necessary to build confidence among stakeholders and ensure that the project advances through a participatory approach.

Gomati Zilla Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Shital Chandra Majumder, District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate and other officials were present at the meeting.

The government is planning to develop satellite towns in three districts of the state, with the initiative in Gomati district currently showing considerable progress, the Finance Minister said. He also appreciated the efforts of the district administration in moving the project forward.

The proposed Udaipur satellite town is envisaged as a planned modern urban centre, with improved road networks and connectivity, upgraded education and healthcare facilities, parks and green spaces, better civic amenities and modern infrastructure.

The project, the minister said, is intended to go beyond simply expanding the town. It aims to create a more organised and liveable urban environment while supporting the long-term development of Udaipur and the wider Gomati district.

Singha Roy said the initiative should be viewed as a people-oriented development project rather than one undertaken solely to fulfil administrative requirements. The larger objective, he said, is to improve living conditions and create better opportunities for future generations.

He also called for coordinated efforts among the government, administration, landowners and other stakeholders, saying that the project could move ahead successfully only with their collective support.
