Agartala, Aug 10: An initiative has been taken to promote the historical, religious and eco-tourism spots of Tripura in the global forum, for which the Tourism department is laying importance on the use of social media and other modern systems, Tripura Tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy.
After launching an online booking facility of the Tourism department at Geetanjali State Guest House, he said, the state government already placed a proposal worth Rs. 50 lakh to the Centre for development of IT infrastructure in the Tourism sector.
The portal has been developed by I-logitron Technology Private Limited. The portal would serve information on tourist lodges, Pantha Niwas, services, availability of rooms, etc.
The Tourism minister said, the online booking system was operational during the time of the previous government. But, with the demand of the time, updation of the same appeared necessary.
He said, Tripura has huge potential in the field of Tourism; as per the Archaeological Survey of India’s report, out of the 10 historical sculptural creations of the Northeast, eight are located in Tripura.
He said, tourism sector has been affected severely following Covid pandemic over the last two years. Now, the government is marching ahead with new spirit to revive the sector.
A good number of Log Huts have already been built in eco-parks of the state while construction of 23 log huts at Narkel Kunja is underway, he said, adding that Helicopter service had already been introduced at this location.
Besides, he said, development works of Tripura Sundari Temple are expected to be completed within a year while a plan is in the pipeline to convert the Pushpabanta Palace into one of the magnificent museums of the country. The central government already sanctioned Rs. 40 crore for this project.
Managing Director of Tripura Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) Tarit Kanti Chakma, joint director of IT department Suprakash Jamatia, joint director of Tourism department Dilip Debbarma and assistant director Mrinal Kanti Das were also present in the programme.
