The foundation stone for a state-of-the-art multi-purpose complex was laid in Khowai on Wednesday, giving a boost to the district’s sports infrastructure.
The foundation stone was laid by Abhishek Singh, Secretary, Urban Development Department, Government of Tripura, in the presence of several dignitaries, including Debashis Nath Sharma, Chairperson, Khowai Municipal Council; Rajat Pant, District Magistrate and Collector, Khowai; Vivek H.B, Director, Urban Development Department; and Charu, Chief Executive Officer, Khowai Municipal Council.
Speaking at the occasion, Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to promote infrastructure across the ULBs. “This multi-purpose complex will not only provide a dedicated space for young athletes but also encourage community engagement in sports and fitness,” he said.
The proposed complex will include an indoor badminton court specifically designed for children and youth. The project is being undertaken under the Special Capital Assistance for States, an initiative aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure in smaller towns and cities.
Chairperson of the Khowai Municipal Council, Nath Sharma, expressed optimism that the new facility would nurture local talent and serve as a catalyst for the town’s overall development. “Khowai is steadily emerging as a centre of sporting excellence, and this complex will further enhance our efforts,” he noted.
An official said, the ambitious project aims to create a holistic environment for the development of sports among children and adults, positioning Khowai as an emerging hub for sports activities in Tripura.
